Birmingham Chamber hasn’t just come off the fence on elected mayors, it’s become the campaign’s cheerleader-in-chief.
The organisation that represents the interests of thousands of small and medium sized businesses has made an impassioned plea to members to support the campaign for an elected mayor in the city.
Chamber chief executive Jerry Blackett tells members:
This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to change Birmingham for the better. It must not be lost.
In the mailshot sent to the Chamber’s 2,000+ members, the organisation says an elected mayor will:
Create more jobs
Be more democratic
Take better decisions in the interest of all Brummies
Get a better deal from the Government and raise Birmingham’s profile at home and around the world
